The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) announced the results of its December 17-18 meeting. It will begin tapering Quantitative Easing, the Federal Reserve’s program of buying bonds from its member banks, in January. This means the Fed will cut back on its purchases of long-term Treasuries and mortgage-backed securities.
